About me
Michael Gawenda is one of Australia’s best-known journalists and authors. In a journalism career spanning more than four decades, Michael has been a political reporter, a foreign correspondent based in London and in Washington, a columnist, a feature writer and an editor. He has won numerous journalism awards including three Walkley awards. He was editor and editor in chief of The Age from 1997 to 2004.
He is the author of five books. His latest book, My Life As a Jew, was published in October 2023.
Michael has a Substack, Gawenda Unleashed, in which he writes about his daily walks on the beach, mostly with his old dog, Rocky. They ruminate about journalism, politics, identity, home and generally, whether or not life has any transcendental meaning.
